The items included chargers, headphones and mobile phones batteries which represent a serious risk to consumers
MCI had seized more than 1.5 million copied and adulterated electric pieces, contrary to the Standards and Specifications, after a raid on a residential villa in the middle of Riyadh. This site had been taken as a warehouse for storing adulterated items that cause risk to consumers. Thus, this quantity is considered the largest one seized by the Ministry. The villa had been closed and all quantities had been confiscated and the owners were summoned for investigation and taking the necessary action against them.
In details, MCI received a complaint from a citizen suspecting a residential villa storing large quantities of counterfeit and adulterated electrical item to be marketed to the shops in Riyadh , where the Control Teams proceeded immediately to the suspected site and keep it under control till they were assured of entering quantities of electrical pieces into the villa for storage purposes. Subsequently, the site was raided with the participation of the joint security campaign. Foreign labors were detected inside working on re- packaging the counterfeit and adulterated items and putting the name of new famous brands and a sticker refers to a false warranty.
The confiscated items Included: more than 32000 Mobile Phones Chargers for several brands, 205000 Cars Mobile Phones Chargers bearing imitative or copied brands, and 6000 iPhone Chargers Extensions , 1300 Nokia batteries, 32000 Mobile Chargers for a famous brands, in addition to 35,000 headphones for several brands, 1250000 empty cartoons to pack the Chargers.
MCI has recently implemented a comprehensive campaign on warehouses and markets through its branches in the regions of the Kingdom to confiscate the imitative electrical parts, where large quantities of such adulterated items were seized and destroyed with the closure of the violated shops, and those involved were summoned for investigation.
The Ministry aims through its campaign to limit the sale of imitative and adulterated electrical and electronic items, which represent a serious risk to the life of the consumer, and to detect the fraud methods which are done in this regard.
The Ministry stresses that it will not tolerate with those promoting fake or counterfeit goods , particularly that threaten the health and safety of the consumer and it will apply the necessary penalties against them.
