The Ministry of Commerce and Investment has defamed a motor, truck and equipment company in Hail, following the issuance of a court ruling condemning the said company of violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law through forging the Fuel Efficiency Label and by writing incorrect data on the label. This is a clear deception and misleading towards the consumers.

A verdict was issued by the Criminal Court in Hail to convict the company and its representative, also imposing a fine and defamation by publishing the sentence in two local newspapers at the expense of the defendant.

In details, while MCI inspectors were carrying out inspection tours in Hail, they monitored incorrect data on the fuel efficiency label at the branch of the said company. The indicator shows that the rate is "Very Bad", while the fuel efficiency is written "Excellent" on the bottom of the label. This is incorrect data and it is a kind of deception and misleading towards the consumers. The said company is hiding the correct fuel efficiency and the actual amount of fuel consumption of the vehicle. Accordingly, the case was referred to the judicial authorities for taking the legal measures against the company.

Notably, the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, in cooperation with the Saudi Standard, Metrology and Quality Organization, and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency, are conducting periodic inspection tours to control the violations relevant to Fuel Efficiency Label of the vehicles in different regions of the Kingdom.

The Fuel Efficiency Label aims at making the consumer aware of the Fuel Efficiency of small vehicles. The label shows the fuel efficiency of the vehicles by measuring the fuel consumption of each vehicle, based on the distance traveled by the vehicle (km), per unit or liter of the consumed fuel.
