Confiscating 2000 Bags of Rice before Marketing Them to the Shops
As a continuation of the efforts of the Ministry of Commerce in various regions of the Kingdom for controlling the fraud and adulteration on consumers, and to follow-up the consumers notifications, the MCI Inspection Teams in Jazan detected a warehouse, run by illegal labors, who were filling low-quality rice inside the bags of famous brands to mislead the consumers that it is of high quality and then to be sold with high prices. 2000 bags of adulterated rice had been confiscated immediately before reaching the consumers with the closure of the site, and those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
The details go back when MCI has received a notification from a citizen stating that some labors are involved in the adulteration of rice through filling it inside bags of famous brands, the MCI Inspection Teams rushed to the site to make the necessary verification, where they found large amounts of empty bags of one of the famous brands, as well as large quantities of different kinds of rice were unloaded on the warehouse floor for re-packaging it and then to be marketed to the shops.
MCI had announced, during the last period, the confiscation of about 1,000 bags, each 40 kg, of rice re-packaged in bags of famous trademarks, loaded inside a large truck south of Riyadh. That was done after receiving the notifications from the owners of such trademarks. Consequently, the necessary investigations had been conducted by MCI Inspection teams and the legal procedures were taken against the violators.
The Ministry stresses that it will not tolerate in imposing the legal penalties on violators and those involved in the practice of fraud and counterfeiting, and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
