Forging Country of Origin and Exploiting Famous Brands, monitored
MCI inspection teams had shut down two warehouses in Al Washm and Batha quarter in Riyadh, involved in storing large quantities of counterfeit printer ink and mobile chargers, non-conforming with the Saudi Specifications and Standards. Illegal labors were monitored forging the country of origin of such items by putting them inside the containers of famous brands, claiming that they are of high quality. All the quantities were confiscated and those responsible were summoned for investigation and taking the legal penalties against them.
The quantities, that had been confiscated in cooperation and coordination with the joint security campaigns, included more than 500 counterfeit printer ink cartridges bearing the brand “hp", in addition to more than 10 thousand meters of internet cables "Ssta Max" manufactured in "China" but they claimed that they were made in "Australia".
Also more than 20 thousand chargers and headset for smartphones, non-conforming with the Saudi Standard Specifications, packed in cartons bearing famous brands, such as "Apple", "iPhone" and "Galaxy". The quantities included 14 thousand mobile chargers, 5 thousand auto mobile chargers, in addition to more than two thousand Bluetooth headsets.
MCI inspectors had carried out inspection rounds in various regions of the Kingdom recently, led to the confiscation of large quantities of counterfeited and adulterated consuming commodities, which were re-packed and stored by illegal labors for deceiving and cheating the consumers.
The Ministry emphasizes that it would continue its inspection rounds on warehouses and all commercial institutions, to ensure their regular works and the absence of fraud practices on consumers, and to stop exploiting the demand for purchase in selling and marketing any counterfeit or adulterated goods.
MCI would like all the consumers to cooperate by reporting their complaints and observations to the Notification Center in the Ministry on 1900.
