The Country of Origin had been forged from "China" to "Germany" to mislead the Consumers
During MCI inspection campaigns in Riyadh, the inspectors detected a truck carrying about 30 thousand pieces of counterfeit energy-saving lighting, where the country of origin had been forged from "China" to "German" in order to mislead the consumers, claiming that they are of high quality. An ambush had been made, which led to the closure of a warehouse in Al Faisalia quarter, south of Riyadh, used for storing and forging the items. All the counterfeit quantities had been seized before being distributed in the local market. Those responsible were summoned by MCI for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
The details go back when MCI inspectors suspected a Diana vehicle running in the streets of Riyadh. Upon checking and inspecting the items, it turned out that the country of origin had been forged. Therefore, more than 18 thousand pieces of fake lighting had been seized before being distributed to retailers.
The source of such items had been traced, where it turned out that they belonged to an Asian expatriate, who managed a warehouse for storing such counterfeit items. Upon inspecting the site, more than 10 thousand additional pieces of fake lighting had been detected, besides 2,000 electric transformers, with forged country of origin.
Meanwhile, during the inspection rounds, MCI inspectors had seized about 5 thousand counterfeit consuming commodities, bearing famous trademarks in Al Batha quarter. The seizures included video games controllers, calculators, batteries, electric chargers and headsets for mobile phones, in addition to clothing bearing symbols and images contrary to the Islamic doctrine, besides large amounts of wrappings and packages prepared for forging and counterfeiting.
MCI had already carried out inspection rounds in various regions of the Kingdom, led to the seizure and confiscation of large quantities of counterfeit and adulterated consuming items, which were re-packaged and stored by illegal labors for deceiving and cheating the consumers.
MCI would like to emphasize that it will continue its inspection rounds on all warehouses and commercial institutions, to verify their regular works, and to ensure the absence of fraud and manipulation practices on consumers, and to stop exploiting the demand for purchase in selling and marketing any counterfeit or adulterated goods.
MCI calls on all consumers to cooperate and report their complaints and observations through the toll free number 1900, or through the application of a Commercial Notification.
