MCI inspection teams have carried out more than 6871 inspection tours on shops, fuel stations, gold and jewelry stores in Makkah and Medina, as well as in the roads leading to the Holy Places. These inspection tours revealed that 92% of the shops are committed to Consumer Protection Regulations.
MCI inspectors have issued 485 violation notices to the offending shops. This is part of the Ministry's seasonal work plans and programs during Umrah and visit to the Holy Places in Ramadan.
The inspection tours, participated by a number of MCI female inspectors, showed high quality, quantity and abundance of goods, including foodstuffs and various supplies in the markets and shops located in the central areas of the two Holy Mosques, as well as the shops in the roads leading to the two holy sites.
During the last ten days of the Holy Month of Ramadan, MCI is intensifying its inspection and control tours on the roads leading to the holy sites and in the two central areas at Makkah & Madinah. These inspection tours aim at monitoring the availability of goods, foodstuffs and various supplies, besides checking their validity, as well as monitoring and controlling cases of commercial fraud and price manipulation, also following up the commitment of placing the price tags on the goods, in addition to ensuring that the price placed on the item is matching the one with the cashier, more over verifying the validity and reality of discounts and promotions, which are usually increasing during the Holy Month of Ramadan. MCI inspectors would take the necessary action against any violation, they would control as well any effects on supply and demand, they would ensure the commitment of all shops to the Rules & Regulations, including the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, Commercial Data System and Trademark System.
MCI calls on all consumers to cooperate and to lodge their complaints and reports through MCI Consumer Call Center "1900", or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry's official website.
